Welcome to Seen Out of London
Art in unusual places by a group of established and emerging artists based in central England
SEEN - Out of London was formed in July 2008 in Banbury, Oxfordshire by a group of five artists who had spent the previous year or so meeting on a regular basis in order to monitor together the progress of their individual art practices. Under the experienced eye of Claire Reika Wright, on who’s ‘Working in the Arts’ course some of the group had originally met, it became obvious that they were all like minded and could benefit by taking these regular meetings a stage further. Thus SEEN was born and and a common purpose and direction decided upon.
The concept of exhibiting away from the usual gallery circuits and thereby reaching out their art to people who were not regular gallery visitors appealed to all and so ‘art in unusual places’ became one of the main objectives. Another unusual aspect of the group’s aims is the idea of establishing a design ethos that unifies the group’s work to a certain degree.
The combined experience and skills of the group are considerable and diverse and extends widely beyond the art and craft disciplines each member practices.
In December SEEN will have a permanent exhibition base from which to launch their expeditions to unual places - at The Gallery Upstairs at Lilimaes in Pasrons St, Banbury.
